Sweet Misery

You stripped the color from my eyes. Leaving
Just black and just white.
And stole the supple sensations from my neck
Where blankets of lilies lied and warm breath once lingered.
You left me.

You drained my soul of tears. Leaving
A cracked heart and my emotions in crumbles.
And emptied the strength from my mornings
Where the bustle of beginnings once stirred.
You broke me.

And I knew.
I knew getting over you wouldn’t be easy.
Forgetting you would be impossible.
But leaving you behind
Would be sweet,
Sweet misery.
